Reflecting on the Thoroughbred Makeover experience has definitely taken a lot of time and lot of processing. So much training, anticipation, time and money were spent over the course of the last eight months to get myself and this big, goofy horse to this one competition. At various points over the last several months, we went from thinking we could possibly make the finale to maybe thinking we wouldn’t be able to make the trip at all, then back to being hopeful for a successful competition.

It’s that time of the year again! The holidays are right around the corner, which means gift-giving is once again on our minds. To help you shop for horsey friends and family on your list, America’s Best Racing brings you another edition of the Horsey Book and Holiday Gift Guide, your go-to resource for the best books, gifts, and treasures updated for the 2024 holiday season!

After months of preparation, the time had finally arrived for the final week of training with the two horses I’ve been working tirelessly with. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions as I’ve trained them both, but I was ready to take them to the Thoroughbred Makeover!

After an exciting Breeders’ Cup weekend at Del Mar showcased on multiple TV, radio, and livestreaming outlets, the broadcast schedule for horse racing settles back into its autumn groove this week, highlighted by the start of the traditional Aqueduct fall meet (as opposed to the track’s hosting of the Belmont at the Big A meet) on Thursday, Nov. 7.

I’ve enjoyed reflecting and writing on ABR about training Quick Chaos. I’ve promised myself I’ll continue to write about our journey on the goodhorse.org blog. In this final post, the first thing I’d like to do is thank the Retired Racehorse Project. The staff and volunteers work extremely hard to make this a first-class event and they succeeded. It was a positive experience for Scout, which was my goal. In fact, Scout’s next planned outing will be his first recognized show at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. I think it will seem mundane to him compared to the Thoroughbred Makeover.
