Horse racing can be serious business, but the colorful people involved in the sport definitely make certain there is a constant element of humor involved. Check out some of these names that owners came up with for their horses:

1. Hoof Hearted – OK, this one may not seem that funny when you read it, but if you say it out loud you’ll be able to scent out (ahem) why this name makes the list.

2. Sotally Tober – Suuuuuure, we totally believe you. Now step up to the breathalyzer, horsie.

When you’re not at the races, one of the greatest benefits of traveling can be the extra time to spent reading.

Reading engages your brain in a stress-relieving practice, becoming a great outlet to relax on your trip. Although several advantages of reading include improved writing skills through increased vocabulary and improved memory to sharpen your handicapping skills, at certain times difficulty can be found in the decision making process of what to read.

Palm Meadows Training Center is one of horse racing’s hidden gems. Nestled in Boynton Beach, Fla., a sleepy enclave located about 30 minutes north of Miami, the Thoroughbred facility is a veritable horsey paradise. I was lucky enough to talk to some seriously talented trainers there this morning (I’m talking Kentucky Derby-winning trainers Barclay Tagg and Michael Matz) and literally every single person said that Palm Meadows is a place that makes horses happy.
