The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Foundation Inc. (TAA) announced today that its 2014 application for accreditation has been published online and that qualified aftercare organizations are encouraged to submit an application before May 15, 2014.

Wish there were more horses in the Winter Olympics? According to an article in Slate today by Justin Peters, there very nearly were.

For the most part, horse people are just like normal people. But there are a few common characteristics that give them away as being just a little different. Below are 20 signs that some of the people you know spend a lot of time with our favorite furry animal:

1) They are the people outside the bar who have a friend checking their hair for hay.

Every day, thousands of horses lose races around the world. Of course, most losses are accompanied by excuses for why the horse did not perform up to expectations. Here are a handful of our favorite excuses that you will hear around the track from trainers, owners, jockeys and bettors whose horses didn’t win the race.

25. “I wasn’t wearing the same shoes/hat/shirt as I was the last time he won!”

Calling horse races is an incredibly difficult job with so much happening at the same time and usually in less than two minutes. The top race callers in the U.S. and around the world feature a diverse group that includes some extremely funny individuals.
