Tacos and Trifectas: Fish Tacos, Blue Grass Value Play

Events / Travel

Welcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI).

Stop back if you love tacos and want to get a trifecta play!

This week’s eatery:

Mr Ruriberto’s

3202 Mission Blvd.

San Diego, CA

Fish Taco: 7.6

  • Massive fish taco for $4
  • Pico De Gallo could have used more peppers
  • Both the green and red salsas had good flavor

Recap of previous wager: Our key horse Laughing Fox was never really involved and only beat three rivals home.

This week’s trifecta key:

Saturday, April 6

Keeneland, Race 10, $1 million Toyota Blue Grass Stakes, 6:23 p.m. ET

#9 Sir Winston (15-1 odds): He broke cleanly, settled toward the back of the pack while saving ground along the inside, dropped back to last and then made a good rally to get up for fifth. He made up a good amount of ground while going wide around the turn and I was encouraged with the way he responded after dropping back to last. He could have easily thrown in the towel at that point but I liked his energy in the final furlong. I like that Leparoux got to know him last time out and he should be able to close into what I expect will be a fast early pace.

Strategy on $100 Budget:

$1 Trifecta: 9 with 2,3,6,8,11,14 with 2,3,6,8,11,14 ($30)

$1 Trifecta: 2,3,6,8,11,14 with 9 with 2,3,6,8,11,14 ($30)

$.1 Trifecta: 2,3,6,8,11,14 with 2,3,6,8,11,14 with 9 ($30)

$10 Win on #9 Sir Winston

ROI Year to date: $600 wagered / $0 returned
