Surface to Air

Surface to Air is a textbook story of a late-blooming Thoroughbred racehorse. He made his career debut as a 2-year-old in 2022 and was winless in his first 11 lifetime starts in the 2022 and 2023 calendar years. He broke his maiden as a 4-year-old in a maiden claiming race on April 25, 2024, at Keeneland in an outing that kicked-off a three-race winning streak that included two victories that spring/summer at Belmont at the Big A.

Surface to Air really came into his own as a 5-year-old in 2025. He was the upset winner of the Grade 3 $400,000 Monmouth Cup Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Monmouth Park on July 19, 2025, when he came from a mid-pack stalking position to collar 1-9 favorite Just a Touch in the stretch. He went on to win by a margin of half a length as the lead pair extended seven or more lengths ahead of the rest of the six-horse field.

Surface to Air came back to score a repeat win at Monmouth in his next start in the Grade 3 $250,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes going 1 1/16 miles on the main track on Aug. 16. Sent off as the second choice on the tote board in the Iselin behind 1-5 odds post-time favorite First Mission, Surface to Air stalked a few lengths off the pace in the five-horse field and passed the leaders in the stretch and kept First Mission at bay to win by a margin of three-quarters of a length.
