Skywire, an Afleet Alex gelding owned by Gary Barber and Lou Tucci and trained by Mark Casse, picked up his first graded stakes in his 10th career start on July 4, 2020, when he posted a 1 ¼-length win in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine at odds of 17.05-1. He won the first two starts of his career during winter 2018-19 and then captured the listed Wando Stakes at Woodbine in April 28 before going on a four-race winless streak that was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the May 2019 Marine Stakes.

After being gelded in late summer 2019, Skywire was shelved until March 2020, when he returned to post two fourth-place finishes in allowance races at Fair Grounds and Woodbine. The gelding put it all together in the Eclipse Stakes, overcoming a slow start to rally strongly in the 1 1/16-mile race on Woodbine’s all-weather surface and post the upset.
