Silver Dust scored his first career victory in his second career start in November 2016.

The gray or roan Tapit colt finished fourth in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in his 3-year-old debut. He then was unplaced in both the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes and Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. Following a third-place finish in an allowance race, Silver Dust finished fourth in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby and fifth in the Grade 3 West Virginia Derby. The winless stretch extended 13 races until he halted the skid with an allowance win in November 2018 at Churchill Downs with an eight-length runaway. He closed out his 4-year-old season with another clear win in December at Fair Grounds.
Silver Dust was returned to stakes competition for his first start in 2019 and he finished second by less than a length in the Louisiana Stakes. On Feb. 16 at Fair Grounds, Silver Dust scooted clear in the stretch to a 2 ¼-length victory in the Grade 3 Mineshaft Handicap to record his first career stakes win.
Silver Dust subsequently ran second in the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap before a fourth-place finish on the Longines Kentucky Oaks undercard in the Alysheba Stakes presented by Sentient Jet. He followed with a runner-up finish by a head in the Michael G. Schaefer Memorial Stakes at Indiana Grand. Silver Dust regained his winning form in the Grade 3 West Virginia Governor's Stakes Aug. 3 at Mountaineer when he outfinished Kukulkan and Snapper Sincleair to record his second graded stakes victory. He closed out his 5-year-old season with a runner-up finish by a neck in the Grade 3 Lukas Classic Stakes Sept. 28 at Churchill Downs.
Silver Dust won the Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes by 4 ¼ lengths at Fair Grounds in his first start of 2020 and followed with another dominant win in the Grade 3 Mineshaft Stakes Feb. 15.
On Apr. 10, 2021, Silver Dust won his first graded stakes race of his 7-year-old campaign. He stalked the pace and battled in the stretch to take the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland. He covered 1 1/8 miles over a sloppy track in 1:50.21.
