Salesman, an Irish-bred Dubawi gelding, made his first 22 starts in France during 2019-23, winning three times and finishing second once in a minor stakes race. He was sent to the U.S. and trainer Richard Mandella during spring 2023, and was no threat in his first two appearances, finishing ninth and 12th in two stakes races on turf.
The gelding improved however, in his first career start on dirt, checking in third by 3 ½ lengths in the Los Alamitos Special Stakes Sept. 17.

Mandella entered Salesman in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes Nov. 4 on the Breeders’ Cup Saturday card, a marathon 1 5/8-mile dirt race. Jockey Flavien Prat sent his mount straight to the early lead and he was never challenged in a leisurely 8 ¼-length romp over four opponents, tallying his first career stakes win in career start no. 26.
