Phat Man

Phat Man won a maiden-claiming race by 12 lengths in his second start in January 2017. He then was unplaced in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes and the Texas Heritage Stakes, the later on the grass, in his next two starts.

After three straight seconds in starter-allowance races, Phat Man won a starter-allowance race in June 2017 at Belmont Park. He followed with his first stakes win in the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park, which he won by a head from Talk Logistics on July 8, 2017. Phat Man remained in stakes competition for his next three starts with a runner-up finish in the Super Derby his best result during that sequence.

From June 2018 to August 2019, Phat Man competed in stakes and allowance races, winning a pair of allowance-optional claimers and placing in a pair of stakes. The chestnut Munning gelding won the Good Magic Mile Sept. 15, 2018 at Monmouth Park to earn his second stakes win and later closed out his 5-year-old season with a runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Making his 6-year-old debut in the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes on Jan. 25, 2020, Phat Man earned a breakthrough graded stakes victory when he closed from off the pace to win the one-turn mile by a length.

Phat Man won his first stakes race of 2021 on July 10 at Delaware Park, when he took the Battery Park Stakes as the 1.30-1 favorite.
