Old Homestead started his career with back-to-back wins at Delta Downs. He broke his maiden by eleven lengths on Jan. 28, 2022, then took a first-level allowance race by 5 3/4 lengths on March 4.
Next out, Old Homestead shipped up to Keeneland for the Laffayette Stakes on April 8. As usual, he broke on top, withstood pace pressure, and drew off to win by 3 3/4 lengths. That marked the first stakes win at Keeneland for his jockey, Thomas Pompell.

Old Homestead was outkicked to the lead in the Grade 3 Chick Lang Stakes next out, and wasn't able to fire his best effort. Undeterred, he bounced back next out to win the Concern Stakes at Laurel Park on July 2 in gate-to-wire style. Charlie Marquez picked up the winning mount.
