This John Kimmel-trained gelding has made his bones in New York-bred stakes races. A late bloomer, Mr. Buff did not win his first stakes race until the end of his 4-year-old season when he won the Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct on Dec. 29, 2018.

As a 5-year-old in 2019, Mr. Buff added five more stakes wins to his tally, including a win in the Jazil Stakes against open company, and another win in the Alex M. Robb Stakes. At age 6 in 2020, he won three more stakes races, with a 3 1/4-length win in the Empire Classic at Belmont Park on Oct. 24 serving as the highlight. On Dec. 12, he tried to win the Alex M. Robb for the third consecutive year, but finished second behind Bankit.
On Jan. 23, 2021, at Aqueduct, Mr. Buff won the Jazil Stakes for the third year in a row. He drew off to a smashing seven-length victory as the 2.05-1 second favorite, with Kendrick Carmouche in the saddle. He picked up another stakes win in the Stymie Stakes on Feb. 27.
