Long Range Toddy

Long Range Toddy ran fourth in his career debut going 5 ½ furlongs in August 2018 at Remington Park, but he showed significant improvement when stretching out to a mile for his second race when he motored to a 5 ¾-length win in September at Remington.

The dark bay or brown colt followed with another impressive performance in his stakes debut. Long Range Toddy pressed the early pace in the Clever Trevor Stakes on Nov. 2 at Remington Park, where he held on to win by a length. He stayed at Remington for his next start when he took his first step on the 2019 Triple Crown Trail in the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes. Long Range Toddy seized command in the stretch and held on gamely in the closing strides to turn back fast-closing Bankit.

In his 2019 debut, Long Range Toddy rallied to challenge pacesetter Gray Attempt in the stretch of the Smarty Jones Stakes on Jan. 25 at Oaklawn Park but he was turned back late and settled for second. He then returned for Oaklawn’s second of four Kentucky Derby preps, the Feb. 18 Southwest Stakes, and finished third after he was steadied by jockey Richard Eramia at the quarter pole behind tiring horses and then angled to the rail, where he re-rallied.

Returning for the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, which was split into two divisions, Long Range Toddy closed powerfully in the stretch to reel in heavily favored Grade 1 winner Improbable in the closing strides and punch his ticket to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.

After running sixth on a sloppy track in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, Long Range Toddy made a sweeping bid on the final turn of the first jewel of the Triple Crown but ran into traffic and faded to finish 16th.
