Kalik

Kalik won her maiden race as a 3-year-old in her third career outing which came on March 17, 2023 in a one mile turf race at Gulfstream Park. She was sent to Belmont Park and quickly added another win in her next outing in an allowance optional claiming race going 1 1/16 miles on the grass on May 7 when she went wire-to-wire to score by 3 3/4 lengths.

Kalik's two wins to open up her 2023 season convinced trainer Chad Brown to try her against stakes company for her next start, which came in the Grade 2 $200,000 Pennine Ridge Stakes for 3-year-old turfers going 1 1/8 miles at Belmont Park on June 3. Facing a pair of low-odds favorites in the Pennine Ridge, Kalik had a big advantage that day as the lone speed horse in the race. Kalik went straight to the front under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. who then slowed down the pace to very comfortable :24.3, :49, and 1:13 fractions as Kalik coasted along on the lead en route to a wire-to-wire victory by the margin of a length.

Kalik was bred in Ontario, Canada by the sire Collected out of the mare Coronation Street by Street Cry.
