Bio
Gstaad opened his career with back-to-back victories in Europe for legendary Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, including a three-length win in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. He continued to perform admirably at the top level in Europe with three straight runner-up finishes in Group 1 races in France in August, Ireland in September, and England in October.
O’Brien next targeted the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Oct. 31 at Del Mar for the Starspangledbanner colt, who drew post-position No. 14 for the one-mile race. Gstaad nonetheless proved much the best with a powerful closing rally under Christophe Soumillon.
Produced by the Exceed And Excel mare Mosa Mine, Gstaad is a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Vandeek.
