Gray's Fable

Gray’s Fable needed five starts to earn his first career win, breaking through with a front-running 2 ¼-length win in a one-mile turf race at Gulfstream Park on April 18, 2020. Three weeks later he ran second in an allowance-optional claiming race at the same course and distance. Subsequently shipped north to Woodbine for the summer, Gray’s Fable led from start to finish in a 6 ½-furlong allowance race on the grass June 14.

The Gio Ponti gelding made his stakes debut in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup at Woodbine in July and was unplaced. He closed out a season that included three wins in nine starts with an allowance victory at a mile at Woodbine in September.

Gray’s Fable returned from a 6 ½-month layoff March 27, 2021, in the Grade 3 Kitten’s Joy Appleton Stakes. He seized command shortly after the start of the one-mile race at Gulfstream Park and had plenty of stamina in reserve after setting an uncontested pace, kicking away from Ever Dangrous to secure his first career stakes win in convincing fashion.

Gray's Fable made his 2022 debut in the Apr. 2 Grade 3 Kitten's Joy Appleton Stakes and finished fourth. He bounced back next out with a gate-to-wire win in the Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 5. 

Stakes-placed winner Myrtle’s Gray, by Oratory, is the dam (mother) of Gray’s Fable.
