Off a maiden special weight win at Turfway Park, Grantham made his graded stakes debut in the Grade 3 Withers Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 5, 2022. He rallied wide off the turn and closed for fourth, earning one point on the road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve in the process.
Grantham shipped to Tampa Bay Downs for his next start, the Grade 2 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs on Mar. 12. He rated off the pace on the inside and held on to finish second at 37-1. He earned 20 qualifying points for the Derby with that performance.
