Englishman

Englishman began his career in winning fashion with a 7 1/4-length victory in his only start as a 2-year-old with a seven-furlong maiden romp at Churchill Downs on Sept. 19, 2025. He followed that up with another huge win in his second lifetime start, which came early in his 3-year-old season in a 7 1/2-length runaway in a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race at Fair Grounds on March 19, 2026.

Englishman tried his hand against stakes company for the first time in his third career start in the Grade 2 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs on May 2 and finished second in an 11-horse field behind Crude Velocity.

Englishman got revenge against Crude Velocity in his next start with a spine-tingling victory in the Grade 1 $500,000 Woody Stephens Stakes going seven furlongs at Saratoga on June 6 when he blew away the field with a 5 3/4-length victory in a track-record equaling time of 1:20.40 for seven furlongs. 

Following that emphatic win, Englishman took a break for nearly three months before returning in the Aug. 29 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes back at Saratoga. Racing the same seven furlong-distance as the Woody Stephens, he broke fast out of the gate, assumed a commanding early lead, and shook off a bid from Deep Flame at the top of the stretch to post another impressive victory, finishing in 1:20.71.

Kentucky-bred Englishman is trained by Cherie DeVaux. He is a son of Maxfield and out of the dam In It for the Gold, by Speightstown.
