Bred by Coolmore in Ireland, Empress Josephine broke her maiden in her first start, winning by 1 1/4 lengths at Naas on Mar. 28, 2021. Three races later, she won her first career stakes race. She won the Group 1 Tattersalls Irish One Thousand Guineas Stakes by a head at the Curragh on May 23.
After three off-the-board finishes in group 1 company, Empress Josephine shipped to the United States for her next start. She finished third in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes Presented by UK Healthcare at Keeneland on Oct. 9 in her stateside debut.
