Dynamic One

In his fourth career try, Dynamic One broke his maiden at Aqueduct on Mar. 7, 2021. He won a maiden special weight race by 5 1/2 lengths, rating off the leaders and drawing away in the stretch. He covered 1 1/8 miles over a fast track in 1:55.21, under jockey Kendrick Carmouche for trainer Todd Pletcher.

In his next start, Dynamic One finished second at 16-1 in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct on Apr. 3. He rated off the pace and took the lead in the stretch, but was run down in the last few strides by stablemate Bourbonic. That second-place finish earned Dynamic One 40 qualifying points towards the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. 

Dynamic One did not fire his best effort in the Kentucky Derby, finishing 18th in the 19-horse field, and was given some time off to recover. He returned July 30 at Saratoga and rallied from last to first to post a visually impressive, 1 3/4-length victory in the 1 1/8-mile Curlin Stakes, a local prep race for the Runhappy Travers Stakes.

Dynamic One's 3-year-old season ended when he was well-beaten in the Travers, and took the rest of the year off. He hit the board in his first two starts of his 4-year-old season, then won the Blame Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 4 in a 6.40-1 upset. He rated near the back of the pack early, then made a wide move in the stretch and got up in the last sixteenth to win under jockey Tyler Gaffalione. 

Following the Blame, Todd Pletcher, shipped Dynamic One back to his Belmont Park base and pointed him to the Grade 2, 1 ¼-mile Suburban Stakes on July 9. He went off as the 9-10 favorite in a five-horse field, and sat in the back under Irad Ortiz Jr. before making his move in the far turn. Dynamic One edged in front of First Captain and pacesetter Untreated in early stretch, but that pair did not yield and he was all out to hold off First Captain by a nose to earn his first graded stakes win.
