Blitzkrieg needed seven starts to post his first victory, winning a maiden-claiming race in November 2018 at Del Mar. After back-to-back unplaced finishes to close his 2018 season and open 2019, Blitzkrieg strung together wins in a claiming race, a starter allowance race, and an allowance race at Santa Anita. The winning streak gave trainer Doug O’Neill the confidence to test Blitzkrieg against stakes competition and he rewarded him with a win in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.
Blitzkrieg needed seven starts to post his first victory, winning a maiden-claiming race in November 2018 at Del Mar. After that graded stakes win, Blitzkrieg was unplaced in two more graded stakes in California during 2019-20 before moving to the United Arab Emirates during spring 2020. He competed in four stakes races at Meydan Racecourse, finishing second once and third once, and then resurfaced back in California for O’Neill.
Blitzkrieg was no threat at long odds when eighth in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile on May 25, but rebounded off of that performance in his next start when he posted a front-running one-length score over Bowies Hero in the Grade 3 American Stakes at Santa Anita on June 21.
