Superbly-bred Battleground finished fifth in his career debut at Naas Racecourse in Ireland during June 2020, but then was moved up to test stakes company ten days later by Coolmore-affiliated Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, and Derrick Smith and took the seven-furlong Chesham Stakes on June 18 at Royal Ascot by 2 ¼ lengths.
The War Front colt then won the Group 2 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes by two lengths at Goodwood in late July, and was shelved until November for a start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Presented by Coolmore America.

With Ryan Moore in the irons, Battleground rallied late to secure second in the Juvenile Turf on Nov. 6 at Keeneland but was no threat to longshot winner Fire At Will.
Battleground is out of European champion and $7 million earner Found, by Galileo, winner of the 2015 Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf and the 2016 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
