Battle of Normandy, a son of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner City of Light, closed from off the pace in his career debut Aug. 2, 2022, at Saratoga Race Course and pulled clear late to win the 1 1/16-mile turf race by 2 ¾ lengths for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. He subsequently ran second in the Grade 3 With Anticipation Stakes Aug. 31 at Saratoga in his second race, and followed that with a seventh-place finish in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at the Belmont in the Big A meet on Oct. 2.

He ended his 2-year-old season with a fifth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland.
Battle of Normandy raced four times as a 3-year-old in 2023 but without a victory. Battle of Normandy did rebound nicely as a 4-year-old, however, when he put together a sharp season in 2024. Battle of Normandy recorded three allowance or allowance optional claiming wins in a row on the New York circuit from June 16 to Sept. 20, 2024. He then earned his fourth consecutive win when he scored the first graded stakes victory in his career in the Grade 3 $300,000 River City Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 9. Battle of Normandy topped a field of nine horses in the River City by a winning margin of 1 3/4 lengths.
