Avie's Flatter

Avie’s Flatter won his career debut by 2 ½ lengths on the synthetic main track at Woodbine in August 2018. The bay Flatter colt subsequently rallied to finish fourth in the Grade 1 Summer Stakes on the grass at Woodbine in September.

Avie’s Flatter closed his 2-year-old season with back-to-back wins at Woodbine, taking the Cup and Saucer Stakes by 5 ¼ lengths on the grass in October and the Coronation Futurity by a half-length in November.

Making his 3-year-old debut in the Grade 3 Kentucky Utilities Transylvania Stakes on April 5 following a 4 ½-month layoff, Avie’s Flatter rallied powerfully in the stretch to post a clear win on the grass at Keeneland.

The Transylvania at Keeneland would prove to be Avie’s Flatter’s last win for over two years. He competed well in the Canadian Triple Crown races over summer 2019, but finished second in both the Queen’s Plate and the Prince of Wales Stakes and third in the Breeders’ Stakes. His best showing in 2020 came in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine, where he finished second by 1 ¼ lengths.

In summer 2021, Avie’s Flatter rounded back into winning form, taking an allowance optional claiming race at Woodbine in June and then overcoming a slow start to rally late and capture the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes at Woodbine by a neck on July 18. Avie’s Flatter subsequently rallied from off the pace in the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes but was beaten by 1 1/2 lengths while fourth. After an unplaced finish in the Grade 1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile, he regained his winning form in the Grade 2 Nearctic Stakes Oct. 17 at Woodbine to surpass $1 million in career earnings.

Avie’s Flatter is a half-brother (same dam, different sire) to Canadian classic winner Avie’s Mineshaft.
