Alexander Helios made his first four career starts on the west coast for owners-breeders John and Diane Fradkin, who bred and raced his half-brother, Preakness Stakes winner Rombauer. He did not hit the board in those races and was shipped east and transferred to trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. His fortunes began to improve after this move and in his 3-year-old season, as he finished third, second twice, and then won a 1 1/8-mile dirt maiden race at Churchill Downs in November 2023.

He did not hit the board in those races and was shipped east and transferred to trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. His fortunes began to improve after this move and in his 3-year-old season, as he finished third, second twice, and then won a 1 1/8-mile dirt maiden race at Churchill Downs in November 2023. He then won three of his next six starts for Joseph, and reached peak form during fall 2024 and into winter 2025, taking allowance optional claiming races at Oaklawn Park and Gulfstream Park and finishing second at the same level in a Churchill Downs allowance to graded stakes winner Hit Show.
On Feb. 23, 2025, Alexander Helios made his own stakes debut in a loaded edition of the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn Park. Sent off at 8-1 odds, he dueled with recent Oaklawn stakes winner Banishing during the backstretch and through the turn, and continued to engage with that foe into the final furlong as favorite and multiple graded stakes winner First Mission rallied into contention. Alexander Helios prevailed in a three-horse photo by a head over Banishing to score a defining stakes victory in his first attempt.
In addition to Rombauer, Alexander Helios is a relative to millionaire turf sprinter California Flag, European highweight and Group 1 winner Roaring Lion, and several other graded/group stakes winners through his dam, the unraced Cowboy Cal mare Cashmere.
