Brian Skirka has worked at Monmouth Park for nearly 30 years, and he and his team have grown the Oceanport, New Jersey track’s signature card, NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes Day, into one of the most popular horse racing events in the country. America’s Best Racing follows Skirka through a 2026 Haskell Day that, despite rainy weather, drew thousands of fans, many of them 25 and younger. The day ended with a thrilling upset as Baby Vino won the Haskell at 28-1 odds.
“To me, Haskell is a little bit different than other big races at other big tracks,” Skirka says. “Our fans have a sense of ownership of the track, almost. There’s a sense of pride – they’ve been coming here their entire lives.
“This is our day to put on a great show for everybody.”
