Trainer Riley Mott Optimistic Approaching Kentucky Derby with Albus and Incredibolt

04.27.2026

Trainer Riley Mott is on target to have his first two entrants in the Kentucky Derby May 2 at Churchill Downs in Wood Memorial Stakes winner Albus and Virginia Derby victor Incredibilt. Mott explains that the best horse doesn’t always win the Derby, it often is a talented 3-year-old  with the best trip that prevails, and he hopes for a clean, clear trip for his two contenders with a shot to win near the top of the Churchill stretch.

Albus, named for Albus Dumbledore from the “Harry Potter” novels, was a little slow to develop but enters off back-to-back wins having gained valuable experience running behind horses and finishing well in Wood Memorial. Incredibolt has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his five career starts and is 2-for-2 at Churchill Downs.
