Griffin Johnson, a minority shareholder in racehorse Sandman via America’s Best Racing’s A Stake in Stardom influencer ownership initiative, got his first taste of the Kentucky Derby trail when the 2-year-old Tapit colt competed in the $300,000 Iroquois Stakes Sept. 14 at Churchill Downs.
Johnson is an influencer with more than 14 million followers on social media. He visited Churchill Downs on June 27 for Sandman’s career debut and was there to support his flashy gray racehorse in the first qualifying race for the 2025 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
Johnson talks about the physical and emotional development of Sandman, participates in an interview on FanDuel TV, savors the ambiance at “iconic” Churchill Downs, and watches Sandman earn his first Kentucky Derby qualifying point against a talented group of 2-year-olds.
Designed to immerse influential figures like Johnson in the sport of Thoroughbred racing as minority owners, the A Stake in Stardom program provides unmatched, immersive access to the sport that participants share with their followers. West Point Thoroughbreds, the first racing syndicate to participate in 2022, has since shared ownership of select horses with eight influencers, including Johnson with A Stake in Sandman.
