Horse Racing Trainer Todd Pletcher on Thoroughbred Aftercare and Breeders' Cup 2021

10.25.2021

Earlier this summer, racehorse trainer Todd Pletcher was inducted into the Horse Racing Hall of Fame. His career as a horse racing trainer has spanned more than 35 years and has featured 11 wins at the Breeders' Cup.

Pletcher sat down with Ren Carothers for a 2021 Breeders' Cup Preview interview and talked through contenders he'll be sending to Del Mar looking to add to his roster of winners at the World Championships. Among the horses they talked about were leading Distaff division runner Malathaat, probable Dirt Mile favorite Life Is Good, as well as Future Stars Friday contenders Annapolis and Command Performance.

After winning the Kentucky Derby in 2017, Pletcher was awarded a pickup truck. Take a listen to what that prompted him to do in support of Thoroughbred racehorse aftercare and why Pletcher says second homes and second careers for former racehorses should be a top priority for the entire sport. In addition to dishing on his 2021 Breeders' Cup contenders, Pletcher also shares some advice for handicappers who'll be looking to score big at the horse racing World Championships on Nov. 5-6.
