Reade Baker grew up on his family's dairy farm in Canada. At the age of 14 his uncle took him to the track and he was immediately hooked on the sport of horse racing. At age 18 he got a job working in the barn of Pete (Gord) McCann, trainer for Windfields Farm, and the first Thoroughbred he touched was 1963 Canadian Triple Crown winner Canebora.

Baker spent time as a groom, exercise rider, mutuel teller, and jockey agent before settling in as racing manager for Rick Kennedy in 1985. He was responsible for such horses as Afleet, One From Heaven and Storm On The Loose and traveled the world learning about various training practices.
In 1990 Baker began his own public racing stable with Kennedy as his first client. Baker's top horses include multiple champions Fatal Bullet and Biofuel and champions Bear Now, Hunters Bay, Tu Endie Wei, Gold Strike, and Judiths Wild Rush.
