After several weeks of uncertainty while many aspects of daily life were halted due to a global health pandemic, horse racing re-emerged under a “new normal” – and last month, the 2020 Triple Crown was finalized and rearranged on a timeline that has never existed before in the series’ history and probably won’t again.

For She’s a Julie, 2020 did not start off on the best of notes.

She made her 5-year-old debut May 23 in the Shawnee Stakes at Churchill Downs, where she was the quite logical 2-1 second choice behind 2019 Alabama Stakes winner Dunbar Road.

This Saturday in Virginia, the Middleburg Spring Races will be celebrating 100 years of racing. And aside from the 100th anniversary milestone, the National Steeplechase Association (NSA) announced this week that the event is the season’s first jump race after a hiatus because of the pandemic.

The Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Stakes has been historically one of the most important races for older females on the dirt during the first half of the year with each of the last three editions won by champions or fillies who would go on to win an Eclipse Award.
