The Fourth of July holiday weekend featured a packed schedule of high caliber racing across North America, highlighted by the 4th of July Racing Festival at Saratoga. With elite performances from coast to coast, the latest results sparked meaningful shifts on the Equibase Leaderboard tabulating total purse earnings in North America, reshaping the standings across multiple divisions as we move deeper into the summer racing season.

After a tough break bobbling the start and brushing the gate, Test Score, a 3-year-old colt by Lookin At Lucky, prevailed to win the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes by 1 ¼ lengths Friday, July 4 at Saratoga. The victory marked back-to-back wins in the race for trainer Graham Motion and owner/breeder Amerman Racing. By bankrolling the lion’s share of the $750,000 purse, Test Score officially became a millionaire, with more than $950,000 of his earnings coming in 2025 alone. The win launched him 18 spots up the Equibase leaderboard, and he now sits at 12th overall in the 2025 standings, having posted two graded stakes wins already this year.

The following day at Saratoga, Obliteration did just that to his competition in the Grade 3 Sanford Stakes, dominating by 10 ½ lengths for trainer Steve Asmussen with Flavien Prat aboard. The Violence colt has won both of his career starts by a combined 18 lengths and he moved into fourth in the 2-year-old division with $165,550 in earnings.

The Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes was a sensational race Saturday at Saratoga, as Fionn prevailed late in the stretch to upset heavily favored Nitrogen by a nose, setting a new track record for 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:44.84. Fionn, a 3-year-old Twirling Candy filly, is now 4-for-5 with a third-place finish this year. Following her second consecutive graded stakes victory, the Brad Cox trainee moved up 32 spots into 34th on the overall leaderboard with $583,070 in 2025 earnings.

Along with his graded stakes victory in New York, Steve Asmussen also found the winner’s circle in Iowa on Saturday with an impressive performance by Magnitude in the Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows. In his first start following a nearly five-month layoff, Magnitude romped by 9 ¼ lengths in the Iowa Derby under veteran jockey Ben Curtis for his second consecutive victory of the year. The 3-year-old colt by Not This Time has won his last two races by a combined 19 lengths and moved into the top 50 at 46th with $452,500 in earnings.

While Brad Cox and Steve Asmussen continue to hold the top two spots in the trainer standings, Mark Casse had a breakout week. The Hall of Famer in the U.S. and Canada posted 11 wins from 38 starts (29%) and $841,829 in earnings. Casse moved up one position into third overall among North American trainers with a season total of $10,917,585.

Flavien Prat surpassed the $17 million mark in 2025 earnings after a massive week that included seven wins and nearly $1 million in earnings. He had an historic five-win day on Saturday at Saratoga, highlighted by his Belmont Oaks victory aboard Fionn. On Sunday, Prat secured his first NYRA riding title, finishing the Belmont at the Big A spring/summer meet with 43 wins (the stats include both Saratoga racing festivals). The reigning Eclipse Award winner remains atop the overall jockey standings, as well as the stakes and graded stakes divisions.
