all in Horse Country

There are a variety of reasons to explain why a long list of outstanding horses were thwarted in their bid to become the 12th Triple Crown champion.

Some are predictable; others are surprising.

Premature moves, suicidal paces, injuries, medications, exhaustion and even a safety pin have all played a role in a drought that stood at 37 years until American Pharoah completed the sweep in 2015.

It has been a bit since I’ve updated everyone on the journey of Roul The Ice and Mr. Park and their journey to the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover.  Both boys are doing absolutely wonderfully, and both progressing nicely in their programs.

Every year when we gear up for the Breeders’ Cup, I always enjoy examining the pedigrees of the contenders. From the blue bloods destined for greatness from birth, to the discount stallions out of otherwise unremarkable mares, we see it all over those two days of racing.

Building on the success of the 20th anniversary TRF Blackburn Horse Show hosted in 2019, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) and the Blackburn Correctional Complex (BCC) will host the TRF Blackburn 2020 Horse Show on Tuesday, Oct. 20. A global audience will tune in to experience a compelling demonstration of horse-handling skills, equine knowledge and the transformational impact of the TRF Second Chances Program.

In this blog post, I would like to introduce everyone to my second 2020 Thoroughbred Makeover mount, Roul the Ice. I had originally bought this guy as a resale, but from the second I saw him step off the trailer, I knew there was a pretty solid chance he’d stay.
