all in Triple Crown

Veteran trainer Richard Mandella has run just six horses in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve and none since 2004, in part due to unfortunate circumstances, such as when Omaha Beach was scratched from the race in 2019 due to a throat issue. But the Hall of Fame conditioner just might be returning to Churchill Downs this year with a talented 3-year-old.

Tami Bobo's Simplification rebounded off a runner-up finish to White Abarrio in the Feb.

For the sixth year in a row, America’s Best Racing is challenging some of the brightest minds in horse betting to come up with their top three picks for key races every weekend leading up to the2022 Triple Crown and then continuing through the 2022 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The handicappers face off in what we like to call the “Big Race Showdown.”

The Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve makes its first stop in Kentucky this year on Saturday night, when Turfway Park hosts the $125,000 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes. The race attracted a field of 12, plus two also-eligible entrants. They'll travel 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic main track in search of Derby qualifying points.

Another spot in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve will be filled Saturday when a full field of 12 3-year-olds clash in the $400,000, Grade 2 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
