all in Breeders' Cup

While some people fixate on the Kentucky Derby each year, my favorite horse racing event has long been the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. I just love rapid-fire elite races across two days with every million-dollar stakes another chance for a big score.

If you had a truly rancid opinion in one race, just put it behind you and move onto the next golden opportunity to cash a big ticket in about 30 minutes.

My colleague at America’s Best Racing, Mike Curry, has long regarded 2-year-old filly races as some of the most difficult to handicap, even after these youngsters get a race or two under their belts. His reasoning is sound – more so than colts at this stage, freshman fillies seem to take unpredictable leaps in maturity from start to start, and it’s often difficult to pinpoint which ones will flip the switch when faced with trying something new such as racing around two turns for the first time.

A terrific field has turned out for Friday’s $2 million Grade 1 FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile presented by TAA at Del Mar. The most prestigious dirt race of the year for 2-year-old colts and geldings has drawn every Grade 1 winner in the division, along with a couple of Grade 3 winners and a trio of international raiders.

When Cody Dorman was diagnosed with Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that limited his development and left him unable to walk or talk, his parents worried about the quality of life he would lead.

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships is the biggest event in global horse racing: if the Triple Crown is the equine equivalent of the College Football Playoff National Championship, then the Breeders’ Cup is the Super Bowl. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the event, which was first held in 1984 at Hollywood Park. If this is your first time tuning into the Breeders’ Cup, then we have everything you need to know below!
