A native of Venezuela, Delgado won the 2023 Kentucky Derby Presetned by Woodford Reserve with Florida Derby runner-up Mage, his third career starter in the race. Delgado previously saddled Majesto to an 18th-place finish in 2016 and Bodexpress ran 13th in 2019.

Delgado is a multiple classic-winning trainer in his native country. Mage gave Delgado his third Grade 1 winner in the U.S. following Bodexpress and Paola Queen and he also has trained graded stakes winners Speed Franco, Grand Tito, and Grand Bili.
Based in South Florida, Delgado is assisted by his son, Gustavo Delgado Jr.
