Emma-Jayne Wilson began riding horses at the age of nine and went on to study equine management at the University of Guelph. In 2001, at 20 years old, Wilson wrote a promise to herself that she would make it as a jockey no matter what it took to succeed.
Wilson rode her first race on August 27, 2004 at Woodbine race track in Ontario. Her first win came the next day in just her second career mount. She earned the 2005 and 2006 Sovereign Awards for apprentice jockey, as well as the 2005 Eclipse Award for outstanding apprentice jockey.

Through 2015, Wilson has won more than 1,300 races and earned more than $64-million in purses. She is the first woman jockey to have won the oldest race in North America, the Queen's Plate.
