Chunk of Gold, purchased for a bargain $2,500 as a yearling, has earned over $1 million during his racing career that included a start in the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Now, the fan favorite will bring trainer Ethan West to his first Breeders’ Cup Oct. 31 at Keeneland as an entrant in the Dirt Mile. West has his charge well-rested and prepared for the big stage, riding Chunk of Gold himself during his morning gallops.
“It’s awesome – everybody who trains racehorses, it’s what their dream and their goal is, to get to days like this,” West says. “It’s our first one, but I hope it’s not our last.”
