Last week was a busy week in terms of stakes races in North America with 47, highlighted by Iowa Derby day at Prairie Meadows and Indiana Derby day at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The big days across the Midwest along with three graded stakes at Saratoga brought changes to multiple divisions along with a new leader in the North American jockey standings.

With eight wins and $716,170 in purse earnings last week at Saratoga, Jose Ortiz became the new leader among North American riders. Ortiz has amassed $22,641,050 in earnings, surpassing his brother Irad Ortiz Jr. in second with $22,322,323, and Jose Ortiz had three-win days on both Thursday and Friday at Saratoga. Not only does he lead all jockeys by North American earnings, but he also leads all jockeys when including Dubai World Cup and Saudi Cup Day, with $30,001,050 in 2026 earnings.

Meanwhile, Flavien Prat led all jockeys last week by earnings with $916,484 and became the third jockey in 2026 to surpass $20 million in earnings. Prat took nine trips to the winner’s circle last week, winning at a 27% clip.

Waggley, a 2-year-old filly by Life Is Good, remained a perfect 3-for-3 with a 4 ¾-length romp under Yedsit Hazlewood in the Prairie Gold Juvenile Fillies Stakes on Saturday at Prairie Meadows for trainer Wesley Ward. Waggley cruised to a 3 ½ length victory in her career debut at Keeneland in April before winning the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes Presented by Resolute Racing on a sloppy track three weeks later at Churchill Downs. Waggley leads both the juvenile filly and male divisions with $267,205 in earnings and is one of the few 2-year-olds with a triple-digit Equibase Rating at 101. (Note: the Equibase Rating provides a performance score based on race outcomes and measurable factors such as speed, strength of race, track conditions, and trip factors, and is aligned with the National American Rating Committee [NARC] for horses who compete in stakes races.)
