Slay the Day

Slay the Day, a Kentucky-bred Into Mischief filly, made her first three starts on dirt with good results, finishing fourth, then first, and then second in sprint races in Kentucky and Florida during fall-winter 2025-2026. After her runner-up finish in a Gulfstream Park turf sprint, trainer Brian Lynch switched Slay the Day to turf, and she responded with a runaway four-length win sprinting five furlongs at Gulfstream March 6.

She then moved up to the graded stakes level in the April 10 FanDuel Limestone Stakes at Keeneland. Sent off at odds of 7.07-1 in a competitive field, Slay the Day pressed the early pace set by 2025 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Cy Fair, dueled with that one in the stretch and gained the advantage, and then held off late-closing Sapphire Beach to win the Grade 3, 5 ½-furlong dash by a neck under John Velazquez. Slay the Day finished the race in 1:01.99, besting the previous stakes record of 1:02.29 set by Tobys Heart, also trained by Lynch, in 2021. 

Slay the Day is out of the winning and stakes-placed Tapit mare Mind Out and is a relative to $3 million earner and champion older dirt female Letruska, Canadian champion sprinter Miss Mischief and Grade 1 winner J P’s Gusto, among several other stakes winners.
