Yedsit Hazlewood is a native of Panama whose inspiration as a jockey was his brother, Angel Rodriguez, and he aspired to be a professional rider since he was 10 years old.
Hazlewood honed his craft at the Laffit Pincay Jr. Technical Jockey Training Academy in Panama and came to the United States two days after his 17th birthday, earning his first win in the states on Addy's Laddy T N T on April 4, 2025, at Laurel Park.

Hazlewood won 22 races in 2025 before a car crash threatened his life and sidelined his career for more than two months, but he returned to earn his first riding title at the 2025 Maryland State Fair Meet at Timonium. Hazlewood won five races at 2025 Maryland Million Day at Laurel Park and amassed 137 victories in his first year in the U.S. He was a finalist for the 2025 Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice.
