Pay Billy placed in one of his first three starts while trying his luck in a sprint, on the grass, and then in a two-turn dirt race. Something seemed to click in his fourth start as he showed more tactical speed and won by three-quarters of a length Dec. 15, 2024, at Laurel Park in his final race as a 2-year-old.
He followed with a five-length runaway victory at one mile Jan. 25, 2025, at Laurel Park in his 3-year-old debut and then subsequently held his own against stakes competition with a runner-up finish by a nose in the Miracle Wood Stakes Feb. 22.

The bay colt by Improbable earned his first stakes win March 22 at Laurel Park for trainer Mike Gorham and owner RKTN Racing. Pay Billy pressed the pace from third early and proved much the best in a 3 ½-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile Private Terms Stakes.
Pay Billy next punched his ticket to the Preakness Stakes with a 1 ½-length victory April 19 at Laurel Park in the 1 1/8-mile Federico Tesio Stakes.
Pay Billy was produced by Grade 3 winner Harlington’s Rose, by Harlington, who also is the dam (mother) of stakes winner Espionage.
