Fionn

Fionn won her maiden in her second lifetime start as a 2-year-old going 1 1/16 miles on the turf on Dec. 16 at Fair Grounds. That maiden win would prove to be the beginning of a three-race winning streak for Fionn that also encompassed the first two starts of Fionn's 3-year-old season. She shipped to Keeneland on April 8 to finish third in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes going one mile.

Fionn earned her first career graded stakes race when she took the Grade 3 $275,000 Regret Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on May 31. Fionn raced behind in a nine-horse field in last for much of the trip until launching her rally in the stretch, getting up to win by a half a length.

Fionn scored the biggest win of her career to date when she knocked-off 2-5 favorite Nitrogen to win the Grade 1 $500,000 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Saratoga on July 5. Using a perfectly timed closing move under jockey Flavien Prat, Fionn surged at the wire to prevail over Nitrogen by a nose atop a seven-horse field.

After that breakthrough Grade 1 win, Fionn took a little over two months off and returned in the $2 million, Grade 3 Blackwood Dueling Grounds Oaks Invitational Sept. 10 at Kentucky Downs. With Prat once again in the saddle, she rallied from off of the pace and outfinished Grade 3 winner Candy Quest to secure her third stakes win in a row.   

Fionn is trained by Brad Cox. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Twirling Candy out of the mare Gaelic Gold by Giant's Causeway.
