Cornucopian

Cornucopian made a strong winning first impression in his career debut when winning a six-furlong maiden race at Oaklawn Park by 5 3/4 lengths on Feb. 23, 2025, earning him a 101 Beyer speed figure in the Daily Racing Form. That effort was enough to send him up to Oaklawn Park's premier Kentucky Derby prep race in just his second lifetime start in the Grade 1 $1.5 million Arkansas Derby going 1 1/8 miles at Oaklawn on March 29. Sent off as the 4-5 favorite on the tote board in a nine-horse field in the Arkansas Derby, Cornucopian hooked up from the start in a suicidal gap speed duel along with Speed King and tired as a result to finish a distant fourth.

After that race, Cornucopian made one more start during his 3-year-old season, finishing second in a one-mile allowance optional claiming race at Aqueduct. He was then away from competition until Dec. 28, where he was entered in the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park. Unfortunately, he was scratched after flipping in the paddock before the race.

His comeback was delayed until Jan. 31, but Cornucopian showed little rust when he returned, romping in a 6 ½-furlong allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita. He then stepped back into stakes company and posted a workmanlike victory in the Grade 3 San Carlos Stakes March 29 going seven furlongs at Santa Anita.

Cornucopian is trained by Bob Baffert. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the mare Magical World by Distorted Humor.
