Liberal Arts

Liberal Arts, a gray or roan Arrogate colt, finished third and second in his first two starts during spring 2022 and then closed to take a seven-furlong maiden race at Ellis Park on Aug. 13. He next started in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs on Sept. 16, the first points race on the Road to the 2024 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, and finished a rallying third, earning three qualifying points.

Off of that effort, Liberal Arts stretched out to two turns for the first time in the Grade 3 Street Sense Stakes Oct. 29 at Churchill, another Kentucky Derby points race. He settled in the back of a five-horse field in the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile race before moving up in the turn, angling out in upper stretch, and churning on to post a clear 2 ¾-length victory on a sloppy track. Liberal Arts earned an additional 10 qualifying points for the 150^th Derby with the win.

Liberal Arts made his 3-year-old debut Feb. 3, 2024, in the 1 1/16-mile, Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park. He closed willingly in the stretch to secure third while no match for winner Mystik Dan, and added six more points to his Kentucky Derby total.
