Raging Torrent

Raging Torrent won his maiden race at first asking in his 2-year-old career debut on July 23, 2023 at Del Mar. From there he had three straight outings against Graded stakes company with a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Bel Pal Stakes at Del Mar followed by a fourth-place finish in the Del Mar Futurity and another fourth-place finish in the American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita. He finished his 2-year-old campaign with a sixth-place finish in the Remington Springboard Mile on Dec. 15.

Raging Torrent hit his stride during his 3-year-old season in 2024. He won an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs on May 4 and then followed it up with another win in the Maxfield overnight stakes at Churchill Downs on June 30.

Now focused on sprinting, Raging Torrent was brought to Del Mar for a start in the Grade 2 $250,000 Pat O'Brien Stakes at seven furlongs on Aug. 24. Facing a field of eight that included The Chosen Vron and Senor Buscador, Raging Torrent was able to score the victory by a neck as the 4.40-1 third choice on the tote board. The Pat O'Brien was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "win and you're in" qualifying race, and with his win, Raging Torrent earned a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile to be run at Del Mar on Nov. 2.

Raging Torrent did not contest the BC Dirt Mile and instead ran in the Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He was a 13-1 longshot in that race and faded to seventh of 11 runners after stalking the pace early. In his final start of his 3-year-old season and with first-time rider Frankie Dettori in the saddle, Raging Torrent rebounded to post a game 1 ¼-length victory over Stronghold in the Malibu Stakes held at seven furlongs Dec. 26 on Santa Anita’s opening-day card of its winter-spring meet.

Raging Torrent returned for his 4-year-old campaign and aced a tough assignment, shipping halfway around the world to win the $2 million Godolphin Mile Sponsored by Emaar April 5 by a dominant 3 ½ lengths with Dettori aboard once again.

After a break of just over two months, Raging Torrent returned for his second 2025 start in a marquee spot – the $1 million, Grade 1 Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap, aka the “Met Mile,” June 7 at Saratoga. He faced a small but stellar field including 2023 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic winner White Abarrio and 2024 BC Classic runner-up Fierceness, and was sent off as the 8-1 fourth betting choice among five entrants. With Frankie Dettori in the irons once again, Raging Torrent broke sharply from the outside post and took the lead immediately, moving easily on a muddy track through the backstretch with Fierceness pressing in second. The pair entered the homestretch in the same positions, and Raging Torrent fought off a stiff challenge from his rival to move ahead in the final strides and prevail by 2 ½ lengths in a career-topping performance. The Met Mile is a Win and You’re In qualifying race for the 2025 Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Nov. 1 at Del Mar.
