Mondego was stakes placed as a 3-year-old when he finished third in the Graed 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes on July 8, 2023. The gelding later hit the board again in another stakes race late in his 4-year-old season when third in the Grade 3 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Dec. 28, 2025.
Mondego earned his first career stakes win in the first start of his 6-year-old campaign with a victory in the Grade 3 $100,000 San Marcos Stakes going 1 1/4 miles on the turf atop a field of eight horses.
