Bishops Bay

Bishops Bay opened his career with two wins in a row at Fair Grounds in February and March of 2023 over maidens and then over allowance optional claiming competition at 1 mile and 70 yards. During that 3-year-old campaign in 2023 he went on to secure second-place finishes in a pair of graded stakes races including a close head defeat in the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park behind next-out Bemont Stakes winner Arcangelo and a place in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistledown where he lost to Kentucky Derby runner-up Two Phil's.

Bishops Bay went to the sidelines for more than a year and re-emerged as a 4-year-old on Nov. 11, 2024, with an allowance optional claiming win going 1 mile and 70 yards at Horseshoe Indianapolis in his only start of that calendar year.

Bishops Bay's career comeback got rolling in earnest as a 5-year-old in 2025. In two allowance optional claiming races at Oaklawn Park in the winter of 2025, Bishops Bay earned one place and one win. That was prelude to his return up versus stakes competition in a test he aced with a wire-to-wire neck victory in Oaklawn's restricted $145,000 American Pharoah Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on March 29. Bishops Bay then followed that up with the first graded stakes win of his career in the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes going one mile on a muddy track at Belmont at the Big A on May 4.

Bishops Bay earned yet another win when he took the Grade 3 $150,000 Salvator Mile Stakes at Monmouth Park on June 14 for his seventh win in 10 lifetime starts. In the Salvator Mile, Bishops Bay was sent off as the heavy 3-10 favorite atop a six-horse field on a sloppy track. He dueled for the lead, KO'd the challenger, and ran on to extend his winning margin in the stretch to five lengths in a time of 1:37.16.

Bishops Bay next competed in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga and was within a length in the stretch but faded late in a sixth-place finish behind elite sprinter Book’em Danno. He regained his winning form in his next race with a three-quarter-length win as the odds-on favorite in the Grade 3 Forty Niner Stakes at one mile Nov. 2 at Aqueduct.

The main event on Bishops Bay's fall calendar was the Grade 2 $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap on Dec. 6. Bishops Bay was sent off as the 6-5 favorite in a field of seven in the Cigar Mile, where he was forced into a pace chasing role behind runaway early front runner Mika, who established the lead. Bishops Bay did enough to stay within striking distance under jockey Flavien Prat and was able to issue the solid challenge to Mika down the stretch, eventually wearing down that rival close to the wire to score a neck victory in a time of 1:34.62.

Bishops Bay returned for his 6-year-old season in 2026 and began his campaign with a fourth-place finish in the $20 million Saudi Cup on Feb. 14. He then returned stateside and finished second twice in a row, first in the Grade 2 Westchester Stakes on May 3 at Belmont at the Big A and then in the Salvator Mile June 13 at Monmouth Park. 

Bishops Bay got back into the winner's circle with a victory atop a four-horse field in the Grade 3 $150,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Monmouth Park on August 15.
