Danse Macabre

Danse Macabre finished second in her career debut June 25, 2022, in a five-furlong dirt race at Churchill Downs for trainer Kelsey Danner. Switched to the turf for her second race, the chestnut filly by Army Mule prompted the pace and won by three lengths July 13 at Colonial Downs.

Making her stakes debut in the Bolton Landing Stakes in August at Saratoga Race Course, Danse Macabre finished second to Love Reigns. A breakthrough stakes win came in the fourth race of Danse Macabre’s 2-year-old campaign as she rallied from third and battled gamely to win the Ainsworth Untapable Stakes by a nose Sept. 13 at Kentucky Downs.

Danse Macabre ran third in the Grade 3 Matron Staks in her graded stakes debut and her final start as a 2-year-old, finishing 1 ¾ lengths behind winner American Apple on Oct. 8 at the Belmont at the Big A meeting.

Returning from a layoff of more than 4 ½ months and stretching out in distance for the first time in the $200,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes, Danse Macabre was rated just off the pace and again showed determination in deep stretch of the one-mile race to fend off late rallies from Papilio and heavily favored Cairo Consort for a Grade 3 win.

Danse Macabre was produced by the winning Blame mare Sylphide, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Cambodia.
