Super Chow

Super Chow began his career with a win at first asking in a 2-year-old maiden race on July 2, 2022, at Gulfstream Park, going wire-to-wire at five furlongs to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths.  His next start was a stakes effort at Saratoga in the Grade 2 $200,000 Saratoga Special on Aug. 13, where he finished a distant third.

Super Chow back into the winner's circle in his third start, a wire-to-wire 6 1/4-length victory in an allowance optional claiming race at Pimlico on Sept. 10. That win led to another stakes try on Oct. 29 at Keeneland in the $200,000 Bowman Mill Stakes, and this time, Super Chow did not disappoint. Just as in his earlier victories, Super Chow went right to the lead at the start and extended throughout the race en route to a five-length victory in a field of six. Super Chow ran the six furlongs in 1:12.06 for his first career stakes win.

The Lord Nelson colt maintained that stakes-winning form in his next two starts heading into a 3-year-old season, taking the Inaugural Stkes at Tampa Bay Downs in December 2022 an the Limehouse Stakes at Gulfstream Park on New Year’s Day 2023. After finishing second in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes at Gulfstream, Super Chow tallied stakes victory no. 4 in the Hutcheson Stakes on March 18 at the same track.

Following that win, Super Chow endured a seven-race winless streak for the remainder of 2023, although he finished second three times and third three times.

Super Chow got off the schneid in his first start at age 4 and notched his first graded stakes victory in the process, leading from gate to wire to take the Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes Feb. 3 at Aqueduct under jockey Madison Olver. Olver earned her first career graded stakes victory in the Toboggan. The hot start to the year 2024 continued for Super Chow, who made it back-to-back stakes wins when he won the Grade 3 $175,000 Tom Fool Handicap going six furlongs on a sloppy track at Aqueduct on March 2.

Super Chow finished third in the Grade 2 Carter Stakes at Aqueduct on April 6 and then in his next start was back in the winner's circle in the Grade 3 $100,000 Maryland Sprint Stakes May 18 at Pimlico. Sent off as the 4.20-1 fourth choice on the tote board in a field of six horses in the Maryland Sprint, Super Chow went straight to the lead and never looked back for a 1 3/4-length win on the Preakness undercard. 

Super Chow is trained by Jorge Delgado. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Lord Nelson out of the mare Bonita Mia by Warrior's Reward.
