Rockefeller, a Bob Baffert-trained son of Medaglia d’Oro, won his career debut by 2 ¼ lengths Aug. 28, 2021, at Del Mar. He was elevated to Grade 1 company off of that win and stretched out from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles in the American Pharoah Stakes Oct. 1 at Santa Anita Park, where he pressed pacesetting stablemate Corniche early but had no late kick and finished seven lengths back in fourth.

Baffert then sent Rockefeller across the country for a start in the Grade 3 Nashua Stakes at Belmont Park on Nov. 7. The colt went to the lead early in the one-turn mile race and had plenty in reserve for his stretch run, widening his advantage to 2 ¾ lengths at the wire.

Rockefeller is co-owned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, and Robert Masterton. The first three members of the partnership paid $750,000 for him at the 2020 Keeneland September yearling sale. He is out of the Grade 1-winning Speightstown mare Dance to Bristol and is from an extended female family stocked with graded stakes winners, including Travers Stakes winner and sire General Assembly.
